Mission

The Department of Interdisciplinary Programs empowers students to design an academic pathway that reflects their interests, strengths, and professional goals. Rooted in the liberal arts and the Dominican tradition of the search for truth, the department encourages students to integrate knowledge across disciplines, think critically, and prepare for meaningful careers and lifelong learning.

About the Department

The Department of Interdisciplinary Programs provides flexible degree pathways that allow students to combine coursework from multiple academic disciplines into a cohesive program of study. Working closely with faculty advisors, students create an individualized educational experience that aligns with their academic interests, career aspirations, and personal goals.

By integrating knowledge across disciplines, students develop the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, solve complex problems, and apply learning in diverse professional and community settings. These programs prepare graduates for careers in a wide range of fields as well as continued graduate or professional study.

Degrees and Programs

The department offers the following academic programs:

Associate's Degrees 

  • Associate of Arts in Liberal Studies (Adult Degree Program and Traditional Undergraduate Program)

Bachelor’s Degrees 

  • Bachelor of Arts in General Studies (Adult Degree Program and Traditional Undergraduate Program)
  • Bachelor of Arts in Humanities (Adult Degree Program and Traditional Undergraduate Program)
  • Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Sciences in Interdisciplinary Studies (Traditional Undergraduate Program)

Experiential Learning

Students engage in interdisciplinary projects, research, experiential learning, and other applied experiences that connect knowledge across academic disciplines with real-world challenges. Through close faculty mentorship, students develop the ability to synthesize diverse perspectives and apply their learning to professional, civic, and community contexts.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of an interdisciplinary degree, students will:

  • Demonstrate reflective learning by integrating prior knowledge with new ideas and experiences.
  • Connect academic learning to professional, civic, and community contexts through experiential learning.
  • Analyze and evaluate evidence and arguments from multiple disciplinary perspectives.
  • Integrate concepts and methods from diverse fields to address complex questions and real-world challenges.
