The Bachelor of Science in General Health Sciences provides students with a comprehensive scientific foundation for careers across the health professions. Through coursework in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, public health, and healthcare systems, students develop the knowledge, technical skills, and critical thinking needed to address today's evolving healthcare challenges.
Students benefit from individualized faculty mentorship, hands-on laboratory experiences, and at least one required internship that provides valuable professional experience in a healthcare setting. The program prepares graduates for careers in health administration, clinical research, patient care coordination, community health, and other allied health professions, while providing a strong foundation for graduate and professional programs in medicine, nursing, physician assistant studies, occupational therapy, physical therapy, public health, and related disciplines. Students are encouraged to complement their studies with a minor in Healthcare Management or Spanish to further strengthen their preparation for serving diverse communities and advancing health equity.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of a degree in General Health Sciences, students will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of foundational concepts in biology, chemistry, anatomy and physiology, public health, and healthcare systems relevant to diverse health professions.
- Apply scientific reasoning, quantitative analysis, and evidence-based approaches to investigate health-related problems and interpret clinical and laboratory data.
- Communicate health science information effectively through written, oral, and professional formats for diverse healthcare and community audiences.
- Critically evaluate health science research, clinical practices, and healthcare information using ethical, scientific, and culturally responsive perspectives.
- Apply health science knowledge and professional skills in laboratory, clinical, internship, or community-based settings to support health equity, patient care, and career readiness in the health professions.
