The Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies empowers students to design a personalized program of study centered on a significant question, issue, or area of interest. Working closely with a faculty mentor, students integrate coursework from at least three academic disciplines to explore complex topics that cannot be fully understood through a single field of study.
The program encourages students to think across disciplines, connect theory with practice, and apply diverse perspectives to real-world challenges. Through an individualized curriculum, experiential learning, and a culminating research project, students develop the analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills needed for careers, graduate study, and lifelong learning.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, students will:
- Integrate knowledge and methods from multiple academic disciplines to investigate complex questions and contemporary issues.
- Apply interdisciplinary learning to professional, civic, and community contexts through experiential learning and applied projects..
- Analyze and evaluate evidence, arguments, and perspectives from diverse disciplinary viewpoints.
- Demonstrate reflective learning by synthesizing prior knowledge with new ideas and experiences to develop informed conclusions.
MAJOR REQUIREMENTS
REQUIRED CORE (42 credits)
Select twelve (36 credits) focused in at least three different departments or schools in order to study a specific theme, or set of questions of the student’s own choosing. Students may take no more than four introductory level courses.
