The Bachelor of Arts in Political Science prepares students to understand governments, political systems, public policy, and the forces that shape local, national, and global affairs. Through the study of political theory, American government, comparative politics, and international relations, students develop the critical thinking, research, communication, and analytical skills needed to evaluate complex issues, engage in civic life, and lead with integrity. Rooted in the liberal arts, the program prepares graduates for careers in government, public administration, law, public policy, nonprofit leadership, international affairs, business, and graduate study.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of a degree in Political Science, students will:
- Demonstrate proficiency in scholarly research and the analysis of political issues using evidence-based approaches.
- Communicate political ideas and arguments effectively through written and oral presentations.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the values, ideas, and traditions that have shaped Western political thought.
- Analyze the political, social, economic, cultural, and environmental factors that influence political institutions and public life.
- Explain the structure and functions of American government and compare them with other political systems.
- Evaluate international political relationships and the forces that contribute to global cooperation and conflict.
- Assess competing political arguments, interpret empirical evidence, and draw reasoned conclusions supported by research.
