The Bachelor of Arts in Spanish develops students’ linguistic proficiency, cultural understanding, and critical perspectives through the study of the Spanish-speaking world. Grounded in a liberal arts education, the program explores the literature, history, film, and cultural expressions of Spain, Latin America, and U.S. Hispanic communities while strengthening students’ ability to communicate effectively in Spanish.
Through advanced language study, cultural analysis, experiential learning, and professional application, students prepare for careers and graduate study in fields such as education, business, law, public service, translation, and international relations. The Spanish major satisfies the educational requirements for students pursuing Albertus Magnus College’s undergraduate Initial Teacher Preparation Program leading to the Spanish, 4–12 (023) endorsement.
Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of a degree in Spanish, students will:
- Demonstrate advanced proficiency in written and oral Spanish communication, including the ability to express complex ideas and arguments effectively.
- Analyze literary, cinematic, historical, and cultural works from Spain, Latin America, and U.S. Hispanic communities within their social and historical contexts
- Demonstrate intercultural competence and an understanding of diverse Spanish-speaking communities and global perspectives.
- Apply language and cultural knowledge through experiential learning, professional experiences, and community engagement.
- Conduct research using appropriate digital resources and communicate findings through professional-level presentations and digital portfolios.
