Albertus Magnus College may record select courses via video and/or audio to ensure the delivery of high-quality, accessible instruction. To protect the intellectual property of faculty and students, as well as the privacy rights of all community members, this policy establishes strict guidelines regarding the recording and redistribution of classroom instruction.

General Restriction & Disability Accommodations

Students are strictly prohibited from making audio or video recordings of any class session, lecture, or laboratory activity.

  • Exception for Approved Accommodations: Students with documented disabilities who have been formally granted a recording accommodation through the Office of Accessibility Services are permitted to record classes. This accommodation must be verified by an official Letter of Accommodation before any recording takes place.

Guidelines for Authorized Recordings

Students who utilize authorized recordings (either via an approved disability accommodation or as provided directly by the faculty/College) must strictly adhere to the following mandates:

  • Academic Use Only: Authorized recordings may only be used for personal, academic purposes directly related to completing course requirements (e.g., studying, reviewing lectures, completing assignments).
  • Prohibition on Sharing and Redistribution: Students may not post recordings online, save them to unauthorized personal servers, or share them with family, friends, peers, or any third party for personal or professional use.
  • Mandatory Destruction: All authorized copies of recorded class sessions must be permanently deleted immediately after viewing/using them, and no later than the conclusion of the academic semester.
  • Privacy and FERPA Care: Students participating in virtual classrooms or recorded sessions must refrain from sharing personally identifiable student information protected under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).

Compliance and Enforcement

Lectures, demonstrations, and classroom performances are protected under U.S. Copyright Law and Connecticut State law as the intellectual property of the faculty member and/or the College.

  • Academic Misconduct: Any unauthorized recording, sharing, posting, or redistribution of classroom recordings constitutes a violation of the Tradition of Honor and will be treated as academic misconduct.
  • Disciplinary Sanctions: Violations of this policy may result in institutional disciplinary sanctions. Any suspected misuse of video or audio recordings involves potential FERPA violations and must be reported immediately to the College for formal investigation.
