Students are expected to complete their college-level English requirement within their first 36 credits of study. To support academic success, students who have not previously completed a college-level English course are required to complete an English placement assessment before enrolling in English coursework that fulfills the institution’s writing requirement.
The placement assessment helps determine a student's current writing skills and ensures enrollment in the course level most appropriate for their preparation. Students who do not demonstrate college-level writing proficiency through the assessment, or who choose not to complete the assessment, will begin with a foundational writing course designed to strengthen the skills necessary for success in college-level writing.
Students who intend to satisfy their English or mathematics requirement through a CLEP examination must also do so within their first 36 credits of study.
