Placement Testing

To promote academic success and ensure students begin in courses that align with their current level of preparation, the College requires placement testing in mathematics and English for students who have not previously completed transferable college-level coursework in those subjects.
Students are expected to complete both their college-level mathematics and college-level English requirements within their first 45 credits of study. Placement assessments help determine the most appropriate starting course by evaluating a student's current knowledge, skills, and readiness for college-level coursework.
Students who have not completed a transferable college-level mathematics course must complete the mathematics placement assessment before enrolling in a course that satisfies the College's mathematics requirement. Likewise, students who have not completed a transferable college-level English course must complete the English placement assessment before enrolling in a course that fulfills the College's writing requirement.
Students may be exempt from the applicable placement assessment upon submission of approved evidence of college readiness, including transferable college-level credit, qualifying Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), College-Level Examination Program (CLEP), SAT or ACT scores that meet institutional benchmarks, or other institutionally approved measures.
Students who do not demonstrate readiness for college-level coursework through the applicable placement assessment, or who choose not to complete the required assessment, will be placed into an appropriate foundational mathematics or writing course. These courses are designed to develop the skills necessary for success in subsequent college-level coursework.
